Ingredients
- Rice - 2 Cups
- Urad Dal - 2 tbsp
- Cooked Rice - 3 tbsp
- Yeast - 1 tsp
- Sugar - 1 tbsp
- Water - 2 tbsp
- Grated Coconut - 1/2 Cup
- Salt - 1 pinch
Method of preparation
- Wash & soak rice along with urad dal for about 6 hrs.
- Mix the sugar witrh water & add yeast into it, keep aside for 10 - 15 mins.
- Grind the rice, when half grinded add cooked rice into it & make a smooth batter.
- Mix the sugar yeast mixture into the batter & mix well.
- Keep the batter in a warm place for atleast 9 hrs or overnight.
- The batter wiil be doubled after fermentation.
- Grind the coconut & add it to the batter & mix well, add salt.
- Heat the pan / appam chatti, if it is non stick grease it.
- Add one laddle full of batter to the appa chatti.
- Lift the pan from the stove & slightly twist around to spread the batter in the pan to make circular shape.
- Close it with a lid & cook on low heat till the edges are golden brown, it takes about 02 - 03 minutes.
- Serve it with potato stews / egg curry / kadala curry etc......
Notes :
Use the soaked water for grinding the rice
Use of urad dal, cooked rice & grinded coconut makes the appam soft, smooth & delicious
