Ingredients
- Red gram - 1 cup
- Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
- Turmeric powder - 1/2tsp
- Red chilly powder - 1tsp
- Garlic - 2 flakes
- Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Oil - 1tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1tsp
- Dry red chilly - 2 nos
- Shallots - 4 thickly chopped
- Curry leaves
Method of preparation
- wash and soak the red gram for overnight.
- pressure cook the red gram with enough salt and water.cook till 4 - 5 whistles.
- Gring the grated coconut with turmeric ,red chilly,garlic,cumin seeds and salt.do not use water to grind the coconut,make half grinded.
- Heat oil in a pan,splutter mustard seeds,add sliced shllots,dry red chilly,curry leaves saute till it becomes golden brown.
- Next drain the water and add cooked red gram in the pan,add grinded coconut,mix well then close the lid and cook for 3 - 4 min on medium low flame.
- Remove the lid mix the gram well and let it dry on low flame.stop the flame when it becomes dry.
- Vanpayar thoran is ready.
